TOP THREE REASONS TO TAN INDOORS THIS SUMMER:
1. CONTROLLED UV EXPOSURE - Indoor tanning equipment provides a controlled ratio of UVA and UVB, to minimize your risk of burning and
giving you a better chance to build a tan gradually to achieve that perfect polished bronze skin.
2. CONVENIENCE - Indoor tanning allows you to get exposure to UV for a short period of time at any time of day, evening or year. Giving you the
look of being on the beach all day, without that nasty burn.
3. COMFORTABLE AND RELAXING - We always ensure that the environment is the right temperature for you.
We have a relaxed atmosphere giving you that escape from the daily grind.
You have made a wise decision in choosing to tan in a comfortable, controlled atmosphere at Agi's.
We will provide you with professional and courteous service each time you visit.
Our goal is to help you achieve the best tan possible while teaching you how to avoid
sunburn and overexposure, both outdoors and indoors in this facility.
Our aim is to educate our customers on responsible exposure to UV
That's what we call "Smart Tanning."

A life of balance and moderation is the key to living a healthy existence. We want to help you find that healthy balance in our tanning salon. Sunburn prevention - not sun avoidance - is what you should practice. Like so many things in life, moderation is the key to enjoying your tan.
A "Smart Tan" is a comprehensive concept of sun safety, with an eye on living a pratical life. Smart Tanning involves considering easy and reasonable preventive steps to care for your skin.
By practicing Smart Tanning, you can develop your natural tan gradually while minimizing the chances of getting sunburn and the risks that come along with sunburn. |

Soak up some "Sunshine Vitamin"with every tan! DID YOU KNOW? UVB RAYS EMITTED BY TANNING LAMPS MAKE VITAMIN D IN YOUR BODY.
Vitamin D Facts:
1. It is nearly impossible to get adequate amounts of vitamin D from your diet. UV exposure is the only reliable way to generate vitamin D in your own body.
2. A person would have to drink ten tall glasses of vitamin D fortified milk each day just to get minimum levels of vitamin D into their diet.
3. It is impossible to generate too much vitamin D in your body from UV exposure: your body will self-regulate and only generate what it needs.

Tanning is a natural process - your body is designed to produce melanin, which darkens the skin. A tan is a gradual increase in natural skin pigmentation and is your body's natural way of building up protection against the injury of sunburn. Make sense, right?
Sunburn is a totally different process. Sunburn is an injury; the red colour actually is increased blood flow, which is sent to the skin to help your body repair the damage done by overexposure to ultraviolet light.
This is why the risks involved with sun exposure is more associated with overexposure and not with getting your sun regularly in a non-burning fashion.

Dr. Reinhold Vieth, who is a leading vitamin D expert at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto said: "Sunbeds and summer sunshine are effective ways to increase vitamin D levels. The advantage of a tanning bed is that exposure to UV light can be controlled more precisely than casual sun exposure and thus, can be safer than advising the public to guess at their own sun exposure from sunlight." Dr. Vieth confirmed that a typical indoor tanning session produces 10,000 IU.
Ultimately, facultative pigmentation, i.e., a tan, is the visible sign that Mother Nature's normal, natural and contra volitional means of protecting our skin is functioning as it was designed to function. Therefore, telling someone not to tan because a tan is a sign of skin damage makes about as much sense as telling a couch potato not to exercise because doing so will result in muscle damage. In both cases, the benefits overwhelmingly outweigh the risks and are key components of a healthy lifestyle. |
Remember, indoor tanning provides a controlled environment
to obtain a tan based on skin type and exposure time.

What is a Smart Tan?
- Avoid Sunburn: Sunburn is the enemy most associated with permanent skin damage. The operators of this tanning facility are trained to do everything in their power to help you tan moderately and minimize your risk of getting burned. That's why we call a controlled indoor tanning program a "Smart Tan."
Learn Your Skin Type: Does your skin burn after playing volleyball for only an hour in the afternoon? Or do your friends consider you lucky because you can lounge on the beach for hours at a time with no fear of getting sunburned? By knowing your skin type, your salon professional can help you determine the best tanning scheduale. There are six distinct skin types; each reacts differently to UV exposure. Depending on your skin type, you will only reach a certain degree of darkness.
- Protect Your Skin: While tanning indoors it is important to hydrate and condition your skin with specifically formulated indoor tanning lotions. These lotions also enhance melanin production in your skin during UV exposure for faster, darker tanning results and keeps your skin in the best condition for tanning.
- If you plan to tan in the nude, cover previously unexposed areas for the majority of your tanning time for the first few visits. Gradually, increase exposure to these areas until they catch up with the rest.
- Protect Your Eyes: Eyelids are not sufficient protection from ultraviolet light, whether you are tanning outdoors or indoors. Over time, UV light can damage eyes, causing retinal burns, cataracts and even night blindness. Outdoors, you should use sunglasses that block ultraviolet A and B rays. When tanning indoors, always wear indoor tanning eye protection, which is available at our salon.
- Check Your Meds: If you are taking any medications, please let one of our staff members know. Some medications can cause our skin to be more sensitive to UV light, so it is important that you tell us.
